Suryapet: Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, who was martyred in the clashes with Chinese troops in Ladakh on Tuesday, joined the Indian Army to fulfill his father’s dream.
The proud but shattered father, Upender, recalled how he himself had wanted to join the Armed Forces, made a vain attempt at Airman’s job and attended a recruitment test. He eventually landed a banker’s job.
The dream, however, did not fade away, and he transferred it on to Santosh Babu, and encouraged him to join Korukonda Sainik School, Hyderabad, at the age of 10 years. Upender was the source of inspiration for his son to join the army, explaining to him the greatness of Indian Army.
Recollecting his dream with TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy when the latter called on Santosh’s parents in Suryapet on Wednesday, Upender, a retired bank manager, recalled how he shaped his son’s education to realise the dream of landing a job in the armed forces. “I had only one son, but that did not deter me from realising the dream of making on member of my family an army man,” he said.
