PANIC AMONG THE MUSLIM PARENTS DUE TO PROPOSED AMENDMENT IN MARRIAGE LAW

The government of India has referred to select committee the proposed amendment to marriage law to enhance the age of girls for marriage from 18 years to 21 years. The beauty of our country is we are united in diversified society comprising of
different caste, creed, traditions regions and religions. Before converting the same proposal into act very elobrate discussions with the eminent scholars required to avoid injustice.

In Muslim society in Hyderabad it has been noticed that number of marriage functions gone up many folds in the recent days, the compliance of new law sofar is not mandatory but in future if it is made a law many arrangements already made will be effected. The Islam does not specify the age for marriage for girls and boys, they have to be matured/ adults.

The decisions and arrangements of marriages of children are made by the parents well in advance, the parents for the marriages scheduled for 2021 and 2022 never considered about the legality of marriage age enhancing from 18 to 21, secondly the religious scholars opine the proposed amendment as interference in Muslim Personal Law.

Moulana Khaild Saifullah Rahmani, Moulana Qubul Pasha Shuttari and Moulana Shah Mohammad Jamal -ul-Rahman Moulana Syed Taqi Raza Abedi members of United Muslim Forum and Syed jaffer Hussain safeer foundation advised people to have patience and not to creat panic because it has not become a law and will be decided with with due consideration.
