Gwalior, Feb 9 (UNI) Defending champions Punjab beat Punjab & Sind Bank 2-0 while Railway Sports Promotion Board defeated Petroleum Sports Promotion Board 5-4 in a tense shootout in the semi-finals of the senior men national hockey championship (A Division).
In the first semi-final Punjab sailed smooth as they comfortably beat Punjab & Sind Bank 2-0.
Experienced striker Akashdeep Singh (8)’ and then Dharamvir Singh doubled their lead in the 39th minute. The team did well to hold on to the lead and eventually win the game.
In the second semi-final Railway Sports Promotion Board defeated Petroleum Sports Promotion Board 5-4 in a tense shootout.
For Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Varun Kumar (8′), Mandeep Singh (23′), and then for Railway Sports Promotion Board Yuvraj Walmiki (45′), followed by Dilpreet Singh’s (50′).
The penalty shootout was a battle of nerves with both teams staying neck-to-neck but it was Railway Sports Promotion Board who remained persistent in their endeavour and showed immaculate patience to seal the scoreline 5-4.
On Sunday, the finals will be played between Punjab and Railway Sports Promotion Board.
